Senior Design and Production Specialist

Job Summary

Responsible for designing and producing a variety of print and digital educational courseware, including graphics, textbooks, ancillaries, and other materials in support of EMC/Paradigm’s marketing and sales objectives, using a variety of industry-standard software applications and industry best practices.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Create and revise accessible electronic page layouts per specified design and typography requirements for assigned projects
  • Create and manipulate graphics and interactive animations
  • Prepare electronic documents according to accessibility and department standards for pre-press and/or electronic transmission and distribution
  • Maintain integrity and organization of digital assets according to department guidelines and standards
  • Creation and QC of print-, digital-, and web-ready PDFs and other file formats per industry standards and eBook production and/or printer specifications
  • Specialization in one or more of the following areas:
    • eBook design, layout, and production
    • Perform expert level Photoshop and Illustrator graphics
    • Design accessible 1-, 2-, 4-color interior layouts for textbooks and ancillaries, coordinating with production editors, editorial, marketing, and Digital Production
    • Design covers, including photo research as required
    • Design static and interactive PowerPoint templates and product templates
    • Train DLP staff as assigned—new hires, skill-specific training of current staff, or new software capabilities and best practices
    • XML and/or digital workflow development and implementation
    • Lead project design teams as assigned, coordinating consistent implementation of design and layout specifications
    • Research new and upgrades to software/hardware and recommend process improvement as assigned o Audio and/or video production
    • Responsibility for management of project archives and digital assets
    • Support the design and layout flyers, brochures, catalogs, posters, and other collateral sales and marketing materials as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Education and Experience

  • BA/BS in Graphic Design or related design discipline, or equivalent
  • 5+ years experience in an educational publishing environment
  • Expertise in a specific area of specialization as listed above, ideally in most areas
  • Demonstrated expertise in current versions of industry-standard software (Microsoft Word and Excel, Adobe Creative Cloud suite-InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat, Premiere)
  • Thorough knowledge of 1-, 2-, and 4-color printing process
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

  • Familiarity with responsive design techniques and best practices
