ST. PAUL, Minn. (March 10, 2014)
 – As health-care facilities continue to convert to electronic health records to store patients’ data, students pursuing careers in health information technology are expected to enter the job market already equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to navigate the top EHR systems used in professional practice. Paradigm Education Solutions, a leading provider of integrated learning resources in higher education, has developed a multimedia course solution, Exploring Electronic Health Records, to equip students with the information and practice needed to succeed in health careers.

Exploring Electronic Health Records will be available in print and eBook format on March 31. Its accompanying learning management system, the Course Navigator, will be available in June. Educators and students can view the following three-minute video for a sneak peek of these learning and instructional resources.

The video highlights the features and benefits of Exploring Electronic Health Records, which teaches students about EHRs across a variety of delivery systems. This course solution also covers core content to prepare students for RHIT exams, includes in-demand information on personal health records and integrates soft skills and professionalism to prepare students for careers in health information technology.

The video also offers a preview of the Course Navigator, a Web-based learning management system that strengthens students’ understanding of EHRs through flashcards, live assessments, quizzes and a revolutionary EHR Navigator program.

Students benefit from realistic practice in all areas of EHRs using the EHR Navigator. Unlike any other EHR training system in the post-secondary market, this live, interactive software replicates professional practice, preparing students for work across different health-care facilities, including inpatient and outpatient. Using the software, students get as much practice as they desire in all areas of EHRs—from adding and scheduling patient appointments, to adding clinical data into patient charts, to coding, to e-prescribing. Assessments in the EHR Navigator are graded and reported to instructors.

Linda Hein, Vice President and Publisher of Paradigm, said, “Exploring Electronic Health Records is the first hybrid learning system to be released in Paradigm’s new Health Information Technology Series. We are developing this series with the guidance of our HIT Advisory Board, a panel of experienced educators from community colleges and career colleges across the country. The board’s feedback reinforced our understanding that HIT programs need course solutions that better portray professional practice and help students acquire skills that are transferable to a variety of real EHR systems. Paradigm’s products and services address these needs and offer a variety of features that appeal to all types of learners.”
